2009 IKWC Brazil is Confirmed!
December 05, 2008
After months of planning and negotiations, local organizers are proud to announce that a final agreement has been reached, and 2009 Indoor Kart World Championship event in Brazil is confirmed. The race will be in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in the city of Macae'.
Macae' is a small coastal city about 2.5 hours by car from the city of Rio de Janeiro. This progressive and booming city is best known for being the base for Petrobras' off-shore drilling operations and its government has historically been very supportive of kart racing. City officials were very receptive to the idea of Macae' being the location of the 2009 IKWC, and are proud to welcome all Brazilian and International drivers to their city. The 2009 IKWC is scheduled for Aug 2-9, 2009, with the Nations Cup Race is planned for August 2, and the IKWC to be run from Aug 3-9. The track will be open for practice for 2 or 3 weeks prior to the IKWC.
The 2009 IKWC will feature for the 1st time a temporary track entirely built just for the event. Macae' has no established indoor rental kart facility, and the race will be held at Macae's Convention Center, also known as Macae' Centro. The entire building will be available for the IKWC, and it provides a 105000 sq/ft (10000 sq/m) space for racing, as well as a 2nd level that provides unobstructed view of the whole track. Comparatively, this racing space is larger than than the racing space available at F1 Race Factory and Worldkarts, so the 2009 track will likely be the longest ever used for the Indoor Kart World Championship. The 2009 IKWC will have a similar format as the 2008 event and a brand new fleet of 35 new karts will be used. Entry fee will be the same as in 2007 and 2008 ($500), with discounts available for paying in advance. As usual the cost does not include the Nations Cup race and practice, which are both optional.
August is winter time in Brazil, so racing temperatures will be be a lot more comfortable than what drivers previously experienced in Phoenix and Belgium. Average highs for July/August in Macae' are around 75F (25C) and lows 65F (18C).
This information has just been released, and full details are still not available. The IKWC site will be updated with the 2009 race information within the next 2 weeks as all details become available.
