2009 IKWC Track comes to life!
July 06, 2009
The 2009 Indoor Kart World Championship comes to life in Macae', as workers begin construction of the circuit inside the coastal city's convention center. Hundreds of automobile tires have been brought in and are being affixed to the concrete surface in the shape of the new temporary circuit. Track designers opted for a fast, technical track, that will be challenging in clockwise and conterclockwise directions. The track is wide and is designed to have many possible passing areas. The surface is expected to be slippery. Once construction and testing is complete, the track is scheduled to be open for practice on July 20, 2009. The dates of Aug 3 & 4 will be reserved for practice with weights, and open exclusively to the IKWC drivers. Racing however begins on Sunday, Aug 2, with the running of the 3hr Nations Cup Endurance Race.

Local organizers are still confident that a deal for internet TV broadcast of the Finals will happen, and, as previously announced, the broadcast format will not fit the traditional 1.5hr IKWC Final race format. Therefore the 2009 Final will likely be split into two 45 minute races to fit the broadcast format. This means the IKWC Top class will now have 7 point scoring races instead of 6. The last 2 races, the Semi-Final and the Final, are still for the top 25 drivers in points after Race 5.
