2011 BRKC - British IKWC Qualifier - Last Round!

June 25, 2011 - This is an important weekend for the IKWC, as Champions will emerge from the British and Brazilian IKWC Qualifier events. This coming Sunday (June 26th) sees the last round of the British Rental Kart Championship 2011 (BRKC) take place at the Daytona Circuit in Milton Keynes, UK.

Both the Heavyweight and Overall Championship battles are very close, with the overall Champion to earn a sponsored drive with Team Great Britain at the 2011 Indoor kart World Championship!

Heavyweights:
Lee Jones had led the BRKC Heavyweight Championship for the entire season, closely followed by Willi Strobl, until he could not attend Round 5 and was overtaken by Florian Holzinger. As we head into Round 6, Holzinger holds the Lead closely followed by Strobl and Jones. James Auld follows just 10 points behind, but not close enough to challenge for the title.

Realistically, any of the front three drivers could take the Championship victory. All three
have shown very strong and consistent pace amongst the Heavyweights this season, so
guessing which driver will finish in which position is futile. However, we can look at some
possibilities:

If Florian wins the Heavyweight race, even with Lee Jones in 2nd place, the title is his.
The same is true for Lee. However, if Willi wins the race, he needs Florian to finish lower
than 3rd, and Lee to finish 3rd or lower to take the title.

If Lee finishes in 2nd place and Florian in 3rd - Lee will win by two points. If Florian takes
2nd place and Lee finishes behind him, his title is secure.

Then here's where it gets really interesting: If Lee finishes 3rd, and Florian finishes 4th -
they will be tied on 178 points after drop rounds. Florian would win based on TOTAL
number of points - but ignoring that, it would then be down to count-back on number of
6th places (as both would have 2 x 1st, 0 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd, 2 x 4th, 0 x 5th). And Florian would
take it by virtue of having one sixth place over Lee's zero.

It really is THAT close.

OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP:

In the Overall Class, Harry Wicks led the Title race for most of the season. Chris Hackworth and Anwar B. Smith gradually chased him down, and this has resulted in the picture we have right now: Anwar leads after the "drop", with Wicks and Hackworth only 2 points behind. Daniel Truman has kept himself on the hunt, thanks to a strong 3rd place result on Round 5.

Once again the ultimate outcome is anyone's guess, but here are some possibilities:

If Hackworth wins, he takes the Championship. The same is true for Wicks and Smith. Truman also needs a win to have any chance at the Title, but will depend on the others' results.

If none of the top 3 wins, but one comes in 2nd, he will be the Champion.
If none of the top 3 comes in 2nd or better, but one comes in 3rd, he will be the Champion.
If none of the top 3 comes in 3rd or better, but one comes in 4th, he will be Champion.
Its a definite 3 way race and any prediction is a mere guess. One thing is certain: we are guaranteed a truly exciting finish to the 2011 British Rental Kart Championship, and the Champion will have truly earned his spot in Team Great Britain at the 2011 Indoor Kart World Championship!
