Grooten & Borremans win 2008 Belgian Championships!
December 31, 2008

Reigning 2008 Indoor Kart World Champion Mathias Grooten has closed the year with another significant title: The 2008 Belgian Indoor Kart Championship. Grooten won 7 of the 9 races in the Belkart Master Championship taking the Title with 317points over Bart Van de Vel in 2nd, with 287points. The 3rd position went to Mats de Jong, with 267 points. Jong and Van de Vel each won 1 race.

The Belkart Championship is composed of 9 races run throughout the year at various tracks in Belgium, including Worldkarts, which hosted the 2008 IKWC. It is run in 4 categories: Maxi, Master, Heavy, & F40. Points are accumulated at all races, with the worst result dropped at the end.

Grooten had also won the Belgian Title 2007, finished 3rd overall at the 2007 IKWC, and was the top driver in the TalentPromotion.be World Championship winning team at the IKWC in 2007 and 2008. In addition, Grooten has also won the 2008 KartGrid Cup Driver Championship (4 years in a row!), as well as the Team Championship (3 years in a row!) along with teammate Bart Van de Vel. Grooten has shown an incredible consistency at top national and international indoor karting events over the last 2-3 years, and the young Belgian is currently considered to be the world's top indoor kart driver.

In the Belkart Heavy category, the Championship was also dominated by IKWC drivers, with Robin Borremans taking the Title with 300 points over Marc Viskens with 280. In 3rd, Daan Vanhamme, only 2 points behind. Borremans' performance in victory at the 2008 Belkart Heavy Championship was even more dominant than Grooten's in the Master, having won 8 of the 9 races. The 2 Champions are undoubtedly serious favorites for the 2009 World Championship in Brazil, and so is the TalentPromotion.be team, who will be aiming for a 3rd straight World Championship Title.

The Belkart 2008 Maxi class Title was won by Glen Van den Bergh, and the F40 Title went to Tim Wuyts.
