July 31, 2010 (Phoenix) - The stage is now set for an entertaining final charge to the world title after the completion of day four of the 2010 Indoor kart World Championship on Saturday (July 31) at F1 Race Factory in Phoenix, Ariz.

Day four of the IKWC featured only one outing for all of the highly-talented drivers in the field, with three 1 hour group races.

Up first was Race 7A, with current championship leader Matthias Grooten of Belgium, reigning World Champion Maxwell Jansley of Brazil, and current top American Aaron Downs among those in the field. It was however American Miles Calvin who took the early advantage, earning the pole position (52.281). His run out front was not to last however, as there was plenty of changing positions in the race. Jansley in the end emerged with the victory, advancing from fifth on the grid. He was followed home by P6 starter Logan Calvin of the USA, while Miles Calvin completed the top-three. Grooten, having started second, fell to fourth at the stripe, while third place starter Downs was sixth when the checkered flag waved.

Race 7B was nearly as entertaining, with Ruben Boutens of the Netherlands lining up P1 (52.390) for the hour-long affair. While the polesitter was in contention for the win right until the closing stages, he ultimately came up just short. Belgium's Mats De Jong continued his strong IKWC showing, advancing from second on the grid to score the win over Boutens. American Tony Rolfson, in what was a superb drive from sixth on the grid, completed the top-three. Former world champion Gregory Laporte of Belgium dropped from third at the start, to finish fifth at the checkered flag.

The final race (Race 7C) of the day, featured more passing for positions at the front, ensuring none of the polesitters scored the win on Saturday. Belgium's Robin Borremans started from the pole (52.099), and while he battled for the win, he was unable to hold off the advances of his countryman Kenny Geldhof, who had started second. Current U.S. National Champion Jon Kimbrell completed the top-three, advancing from his fifth place starting position. Brazil's Alex Kid went the other way, going from third to fourth in the race.

Matthis Grooten remains out front in the points standings entering championship Sunday. The Belgian however only has a narrow lead over his Belgian counterparts Mats De Jong and Kenny Geldhof. The Netherlands' Ruben Boutens is fourth, while American Aaron Downs lies fifth, just ahead of fellow host nation racers Jon Kimbrell and Miles Calvin.

The 2010 Indoor Kart World Championship concludes on Sunday (August 1) at F1 Race Factory in Phoenix, Ariz., with a final 45 minute race for all 3 groups. After this eigth race, drivers will be allowed to drop their worst race result from their points total. This will determine the top-25 drivers in points advancing to the Final.
