July 29, 2011

Kenny Geldhof is Indoor Kart World Champion...  Again!

Belgian driver Kenny Geldhof has successfully defended his 2010 World Championship Title won in Phoenix USA, by also winning the 2011 Indoor Kart World Championship at Eupener Karting in Belgium! Geldhof beat 188 drivers from 18 different countries in the process, and has become the 1st driver to ever win the Indoor Kart World Championship two times. The margin of victory was very small, with only 3 points separating the Belgian and Maximilian Beer from Germany in 2nd place. In 3rd place was Ruben Boutens, who has also become a familiar face at the Championship podium, having placed 3rd in 2009 in Brazil, 2nd in 2010 in the USA, and now 3rd again in 2011 in Belgium.

Team BlueStar Racing from Belgium (Geldhof, Laporte, Grooten, Borremans) won the Team World Championship, with Daytona Essen (Barth, Beer, Fritz) from Germany in 2nd, and team Indoor Kart Middelburg Veersedam (Wehmuller, Kouijzer, Snoep, Boutens) rounding up the podium in 3rd.

It was the biggest and toughest Indoor Kart World Championship to date, with 188 drivers from 18 different nations competing for the 2011 World Championship Title.

Maximilian Beer's 2nd place overall in the Drivers Championship resulted in him also clinching the Championship Title of the Junior Class (drivers 16 years old & younger), followed by 2010 Junior Champion Maxwell Jansley from Brazil in 2nd Place, and Maximilian Barth from Germany in 3rd.
It was the year of the "MAX" in the Junior Class.

The Masters Class (drivers 40 years +) was again very close, with German driver Martin Hanhardt edging Diego Morales from Colombia by also just 3 points. The 3rd place went to Christophe Withake, also from Germany.

The Woman's class was lacking a bit on competition, but the eventual Champion, Jessica Van der Parren proved deserving of her Title, by beating 130 other drivers and reaching the Semi-Finals. The Belgian driver eventually finishing in a very respectable 44th place overall. The 2nd place went to Brazilian driver Meri Monteiro who did not pose much threat to Van der Perren Title run. Only two women were participating in this year's event.

The Nations Cup event was won by Belgium, with team Vantrico.be , composed by Bar Van de Vel (BEL), Anthony Van Trier (BEL), Kenneth Goris (BEL), and Mats de Jong (BEL), who also scored pole-position for the team. Team Daytona Essen from Germany finished in very close 2nd place ( 0.15 secs behind ) and the current Champions Bluestar Racing A, also from Belgium, in third.
